Help! The Internet is Broken!

I’ve never been to China, but I’ve read about the Internet censorship system they have in place. The idea is the Government controls which web sites are viewable based on the content they contain. Want to see what they can’t? Check out http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org/.

Now, being a normal red-blooded American makes it difficult for me to understand why a country would do this. Apparently the Chinese regime is concerned about what their population could read about, but why? My country trusts me. If I Google “Rumsfeld is a jackass” I wouldn’t expect it to be blocked. And why should I?

I guess it comes down to being fortunate that I live in the best country on the planet. And seeing that its Veterans Day we should remember that without all of the Soldiers who gave it their all, lost their lives or still serve our country we wouldn’t have the freedom we so cheaply take for granted, even things as trivial as the Internet.
